Cinemablend has just announced that Rian Johnson, director of last year’s thriller Knives Out, has plans for a sequel. At this time, the studio Lionsgate has not officially confirmed that a sequel to Knives Out will be made, but it sounds like Johnson is very serious about making a second movie. For those who missed seeing Knives Out, it’s a comedic mystery movie full of many surprising twists and turns that this article won’t dare spoil.
It would make sense for Lionsgate to give a sequel to Knives Out, since the movie is considered a major financial success. Knives Out reportedly earned over $250 at the international box office, which is extremely good for a budget of only $40 million. Knives Out was also well received critically, and was even nominated for several Golden Globe Awards, though sadly the movie did not win any of them.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Johnson explained that if the sequel gets made it would specifically focus on Daniel Craig’s character Benoit Blanc, a Southern-accented private detective who was mysteriously hired to investigate the film’s mystery. Craig would of course be expected to reprise his role and the plot would follow Blanc as he works to investigate a brand new case.
It’s unknown if any of the actors from the first film would return for this sequel. It’s also unknown if or when the sequel will be made. Perhaps the mystery of Knives Out 2 will unfold very soon.
