Dakota Johnson Will Tackle Tragic Romance in Her Next Film ‘Forever, Interrupted’

Fifty Shades of Grey actress Dakota Johnson is set to executive produce and star in Forever, Interrupted, an adaptation of the Taylor Jenkins Reid novel, Deadline reports. Producers Gidden Media and Good Universe have tapped Tricia McAlpin to adapt the story about a whirlwind romance and elopement that is cut tragically short when the husband suddenly dies. The wife must come to terms with her loss as she forms an unlikely bond with her mother-in-law, who didn’t know she existed. 

McAlpin – a comedic actress and writer – will be moving out of her comfort zone to adapt the drama. Her credits include writing for the comedy series Brooklyn Nine-Nine, acting on Comedy Bang! Bang! and most recently writing a spin-off to 2013’s The Heat with Paul Feig returning to direct.

Johnson, on the other hand, has been no stranger to drama or romance as she continues to make a bigger name for herself within the industry. In addition to her breakout role in the darkly romantic Fifty Shades, Johnson is set to star in A Bigger Splash, drama about a dangerous love-triangle, and will soon be filming the romantic comedy How to Be SingleJohnson will also soon appear opposite Johnny Depp (The Tourist) in the true crime drama Black Massas well as in the modern retelling of Shakespeare’s Cymbeline.
