This weekend is a big time for film news! Disney has begun revealing information on its upcoming movies in the D23 Expo, which takes place every two years. Excitingly, they may have brought montage of footage from the next upcoming Avengers flick, Infinity War. It will be part one out of two. While part one has just wrapped, the makers of the film will not rest: they are moving on to the second volume.
This makes sense, as both Avengers: Infinity War films will come out only a year apart, an ambitious deadline. The cast is equally as ambitious, with up to “thirty-two” big name members present in scene. Joe and Anthony Russo, who are at this point staples of the Marvel cinematic universe, will be directing the films.
For the most part, details on plot and characterization have been quite scarce, which has led to a bit of worry amongst fans about the quality of the film. However, some questions may be answered: D23 just showed attending fans some video of the upcoming Infinity War film.
After reviewing written observations of the trailer’s content, it seems like the film will show thrilling scenes like: Thanos wielding the titular Infinity Gauntlet, a powerful weapon which uses components known as the Infinity Stones, which have continuously shaped the plots of Marvel films; a post-Ragnarok Thor (which may actually signal at the plot of the upcoming new Thor film, as Ragnarok signals death and destruction for the Norse gods); and contact between groups that have not met yet in canon, such as Tony Stark, Doctor Strange, and the Guardians of the Galaxy, therefore solidifying the links of this immense universe. Most noteworthy from the footage is a bearded Captain America, who according to insiders at the convention, looks like he has been through the ringer.
Sadly for those at home, this trailer was only revealed to those attending the expo. Still, there isn’t much longer to wait, as the first Infinity War film will reach theaters on May 4 of next year.
Bonus: watch the video from inside the expo below, which shows star Josh Brolin unveiling Infinity War‘s Black Order and Infinity Gauntlet.
