‘Cruel Intentions’ Arrives Back in Theaters for a One Week Re-Release!

“What you can’t have, you can’t resist”

High School is a time of discovery, learning and becoming the person you’ll become for the rest of your life. Problems can also arise as well and when that happens, there’s no telling what the end result will be. Cruel Intentions was a dark, steamy thriller that started life as a French novel that was published in 1782. It tells the story of two people who use seduction and manipulation in order to get what they want. In Cruel Intentions, the manipulators are portrayed by Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillippe and the story itself is moved from France to New York City in the present day.

While reviews were mostly mixed, the film almost never hit theaters as it started out an independent small budget film until it was picked up by Columbia Pictures and released on March 5, 1999 where it would become a box office success. It would later spawn two direct-to-DVD films (a prequel and a sequel).

In honor of the film’s 20th anniversary, Cruel Intentions is returning to theaters for one week starting on March 22. Whether you’ve seen the film before, or it’s your first time, you’ll be in for quite a ride. You can relive the glory of the late ’90s with this thriller that is sure to get your blood pumping and have you talking. Tickets are available and be sure to check your local listings to see if it’ll be playing at a theater near you.

Rick Rice: A kid at heart who has loved watching movies from a very young age. Credit must be given to Siskel and Ebert whose film reviews educated me on the world of film inspired me to become a writer myself. I love to read books that range from various topics, copious amounts of research is something that excites me and of course sitting in a movie theater is a highlight of my life. When I'm not watching movies or reading I enjoy listening to foreign music and working hard on finishing my short stories. Currently working on my degree in English with a plan to enroll into Film School with the dream of becoming a screenwriter and director.
