Kenneth Branagh’s black-and-white film Belfast and Steven Spielberg’s remake of the musical West Side Story lead the list of 11 nominations each for the 27th annual Critics Choice Awards, revealed Monday.
Followed close behind with ten nominations each was Denis Villeneuve’s Dune and Jane Campion’s The Power of the Dog.
With six and eight nominations respectively was Paul Thomas Anderson’s Licorice Pizza, Adam McKay’s Don’t Look Up, Reinaldo Marcus Green’s King Richard, and Guillermo del Toro’s Nightmare Alley.Sian Heder’s CODA earned four nominations and tick, tick…BOOM! earned two nominations, one of which was for Best Actor for Andrew Garfield.
All films were voted on by the Critics Choice Association with more than 500 critics and journalists.
The HPFA intends to hold a Globes ceremony on Jan. 9, which is the same day as the Critics Choice Awards. However, with the lack of diversity and ethical issues that have arisen from the Globes ceremony in the past few years, there is a better chance that CCA will draw in a significant amount more support from the stars.
The Critics Choice Awards ceremony, presented by Taye Diggs and Nicole Byer, will be televised live on The CW and TBS on Sunday, Jan. 9, from 7-10 p.m. ET (delayed PT – check local listings).
