Judging by the $1M Crawl was able to take in on its Thursday night run at the box office, Crawl is predicted to land itself the third highest earning film at the theaters this weekend behind Spider-Man: Far From Home and Toy Story 4. It is already outperforming the Kumail Nanjiani and Dave Bautista-led film Stuber, which made $780,000 during its theatrical debut on Thursday.
Crawl is no competition for Spider-Man: Far From Home nor Toy Story 4 because in its first nine days, Far From Home made $220M and in its second weekend it’s predicted to make anywhere from $35M to $45M, ahead of second place Toy Story 4 which will most likely take in $20M-$25M. Predictions have it that Crawl will rake in up to $10M this weekend as it opens in more theaters.
Crawl is about a woman who tries to save her father during a Category 5 hurricane but ends up trapped in a house trying to outsmart alligators that are out to get her. The leads in this film are The Maze Runner franchise alums Kaya Scodelario and Barry Pepper. Crawl currently holds generally positive reviews according to Rotten Tomatoes’ 89% positive Tomatometer rating and the 75% Audience Score.
Crawl was directed by Alexandre Aja and written by Michael and Shawn Rasmussen. Paramount Pictures released the film on July 12, 2019.
