Last year Los Angles jurors could not reach a unanimous decision on all of Harvey Weinstein’s sexual assault charges. Jurors convicted Weinstein of three counts of raping a model at Mr. C Hotel in 2013, acquitted him on one count, but did not reach a verdict on the last three counts. This resulted in the judge declaring a mistrial for the three counts.
On Tuesday, it was announced by Judge Lisa B. Lench that she would not be putting Weinstein back on trial and was dismissing the last three charges. This decision was preceded by the prosecution’s announcement that the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office would not prosecute the remaining charges.
Lauren Young, identified as Jane Doe #2 during the Los Angeles trial, previously called for the judge to re-try the charges. “I think Harvey Weinstein should be punished for any and every crime… Even though the defendant has been convicted in New York and L.A. for crimes against women. I wanted him to be held accountable for what he did to me.”
Lench also announced on Tuesday that Weinstein would soon be taken out of Los Angeles and to New York.
Weinstein is facing 39 years in prison, which will most likely be the rest of his life. However, he has appealed last month’s conviction of 16 years and 2020’s 23-year sentence.
