Despite the lack of any concrete evidence right now, there’s been a lot of gossip surrounding possible remake of the 80’s classic romantic fairy tale The Princess Bride. These rumors stem from Variety‘s profile of producer Norman Lear, who produced the original movie. While discussing Lear Sony’s CEO Tony Vinciquerra mentioned that, “very famous people whose names I won’t use” want to redo Norman Lear’s ‘The Princess Bride‘”
This comment has led to discussion about possible remake of The Princess Bride. Many people are upset because they feel like the original is already a great movie, and no remake or reboot could ever live up to the original. Even Cary Elwes, who played Westley, tweeted his opinion on the matter.
The Princess Bride tells a story within a story about a grandfather reading a fairy tale book to his sick grandson, played by a young Fred Savage. The grandfather’s story follows a young woman named Buttercup who falls in love with her stableboy Westley but, when Westley is seemingly killed by the Dread Pirate Roberts, Buttercup is then forced to marry Prince Prince Humperdinck. However, she is then captured by three eccentric assassins played by Wallace Shawn, Mandy Patinkin, and the late Andre the Giant. It then leads to a mysterious masked man, revealed to be Westley, rescuing her from these men and a loveless marriage.
Quite simply, the thought of this moving being remade is just Inconceivable!
