Colin Farrell to Reunite with ‘The Lobster’ Director Yorgos Lanthimos

Last year’s Cannes Jury Prize winner The Lobster just hit US theaters this weekend and it has already been announced that its star Colin Farrell and Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos will be teaming up once again for The Killing of Sacred Deer. A24 had already picked up US distribution rights before the project even had a chance to hit the Cannes foreign buyers’ market.

The story will loosely follow the Euripides tragedy as it centers on Steven, a charismatic surgeon, and a teenage boy who attempts to bring him into his broken family. After the boy’s maneuvers turn sinister, Steven’s ideal lifestyle begins to fall apart, forcing him to make a serious sacrifice.

Lanthimos will also be re-teaming with Lobster screenwriter Efthymis Filipou as well as producers at Element Pictures and Film4. The filmmaker has The Favourite in development with both producers. That film reunites him with his other Lobster star Rachel Weisz and will also co-star Emma Stone.

Farrell was last seen in the second season of HBO’s True Detective. His upcoming projects include Solace with Anthony Hopkins and a role in the much-anticipated Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

We will have more on The Killing of a Sacred Deer as it is released.
