The German film production company, Gaumont, closed a deal yesterday with Cohen Media Group for the rights to Bertrand Tavernier’s documentary Journey Through French Cinema. Tavernier is a four-time Palme d’Or winner who is best known for A Sunday in the Country, Round Midnight and The Judge and the Assassin. This marks his first feature documentary project.
Journey Through French Cinema covers the dramatic influence, importance and history of French Cinema from the 1930s to the 1970s. Tavernier offers an extensive background into French cinema, covering everything from the movies themselves to the composers and the iconic stars and auteurs like Jean-Luc Godard. The documentary is said to also include exclusive and archival footage of behind-the-scenes sets and interviews.
President of Cohen Media Group Charles S. Cohen said, “Journey Through French Cinema is already an important, perennial classic, destined to become required and inspiring viewing for cinephiles around the world. We could not be more proud to bring Tavernier’s masterpiece to our audiences across North America.”
Cohen Media Group has set no date for its release, although it should hit Canadian and United States theaters later this year.
