CNN and HBO Max Move Forward with ‘Little Richard: I Am Everything’

After the passing of rock icon Little Richard in May 2020, filmmakers Lisa Cortés and Dee Rees proposed documentary honoring his life. Now two years later the picture has found a streaming backing with HBO Max. The movie will also premiere on CNN.

Little Richard’s career spanned seven decades, in which fans knew him for his extravagant fashion and performances. He many albums to his name with hit tracks like Tutti Frutti and Lucille. Rock & roll fans widely consider him a pioneer for the genre, as he set the tone for many legendary acts to dominate the industry after him.

Lisa Cortés will be directing the film. Cortés has experience producing music-centered films such as The Apollo, and recently directed the documentary All In: The Fight For Democracy. Dee Rees, who is attached as producer, is most notable for writing and directing the films Pariah and Mudbound.

Bungalow Media + Entertainment will produce the picture in association with Rolling Stone.

Little Richard: I Am Everything is filming right now and is expected to complete production this year. No other news regarding a release date, cast list, or trailer has been announced.
