‘Clerks III’ Release Date Update

Fans of the 90s indie classic Clerks will have to wait just a little longer to be able to watch the next chapter. Actor, writer, and director Kevin Smith said on FatMan Beyond Live that “It’s going to be a minute!”

Clerks III has finished with production and is currently being edited by Kevin Smith himself, “We are down to 1 hour and 34 minutes. I have titles for the opening sequence now, it was almost like a music video until now.” The film has already gone through two Lionsgate screenings and will most likely have a “test screening that we do out in the real world” according to Smith. When speaking about editing, the creator of Clerks also mentioned how the first films were achieved with a truly humble budget. “Most of the songs cost more than the entire budget of the first flick, so we gotta pick and choose which songs we’re gonna go with.”

Smith gave an estimate on when he thinks Lionsgate Studios will be releasing the film next year,” It’s gonna be a minute before the rest of the world gets to see it. Clearly, it’s not gonna be ready for 2021. Somewhere between mid-late 2022, I assume. I know nothing, I’m just assuming, because we’ll be done by then. I think we do our sound mix in the second half of July, and I think we deliver in March… that doesn’t mean that the movie comes out in March, it just means, ‘Here you go Lionsgate, a completely finished movie’ When they come out with it, it’s gonna be up to them.”

Clerks is considered by many lovers of the genre an essential movie to the independent American filmography. With an unbelievably low budget and an uncomplicated plotline, the film glows like a hidden treasure for fans and critics alike due to its simplicity. The next movie in the View Askewniverse does not have a specific release date, but can be expected sometime in late 2022 from the looks of it.
