Civil Case Against Alec Baldwin Involving ‘Rust’ Shooting Is Put On Pause

A Los Angeles Superior Court judge has paused the civil case against Alec Baldwin for his involvement in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of his movie Rust. However, Baldwin and “Rust” armorer Hannah Guiterriez-Reed are still expected to appear before a New Mexico state judge for a hearing regarding their criminal case.

LASC Judge Michael E. Whittaker wrote in an order, “The Parties believe a continuance of the trial and all related dates serves the interests of all parties by allowing the parties to maximize good faith settlement negotiations and complete discovery.”

Since Hutchins’ death, there have been numerous investigations to determine what exactly happened and who was at fault. Baldwin has repeatedly asserted he did not pull the trigger and was unaware the gun was loaded. However, several crew members have spoken out about the unsafe work conditions and blatant disregard for firearms safety and training

While the District Attorney dropped a mandatory five-year sentence, Baldwin and Guiterriez-Reed still face 18 months behind bars and some hefty fines. Despite this, the film is expected to resume production in Montana later this year

The civil case is set to resume in February of next year; however, the criminal case is proceeding, with a trial date being set for later this week.
