During an interview with Variety, Chris Pratt promised there will be a Guardians of the Galaxy 3. Pratt was asked the question of whether the third film will be happening, while on the carpet of The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, where he stated, “I promise there’ll be a third movie, I don’t know exactly what that’s going to look like, but I know everyone on board is just eager to give the fans what they want and wrap up a trilogy in a meaningful way.”
James Gunn, the director of the first two Guardians of the Galaxy films, was fired after tweets posted nearly a decade ago. These posts contained disturbing jokes about pedophilia and rape. Disney fired Gunn and Gunn stated, “Regardless of how much time has passed, I understand and accept the business decisions taken today. Even these many years later, I take full responsibility for the way I conducted myself then. All I can do now, beyond offering my sincere and heartfelt regret, is to be the best human being I can be…To everyone inside my industry and beyond, I again offer my deepest apologies.”
Numerous fans were outraged when word got out that the Guardians cast wrote a letter to Disney, arguing for Gunn’s re-hiring. Dave Bautista, in particular, was extremely angry at Disney’s decision and went so far as to threaten to leave the third film if they did not use Gunn’s original script. Although details of when the film will go into production are not concrete, it does appear that the once dire situation is looking up.
