After a few months of speculation and reports, Chris Pine (Star Trek Into Darkness) has joined Gal Gadot (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice) in Wonder Woman for Warner Bros. The news comes after talks about the actor being linked to the role of Steve Trevor, the main love interest to Gal Gadot’s Diana Prince.
In the comics, Trevor serves as a member of the Air Corps for the U.S. Army, and after his plane crashes on Paradise Island, he’s nursed back to health by the Amazon princess Diana. Ultimately falling in love with Trevor, Diana follows him back home, where she becomes known as Wonder Woman. Still, the plot details regarding Steve Trevor’s role in Wonder Woman are being kept under wraps, and it isn’t known if the film uses his traditional backstory in regards to meeting Wonder Woman, especially considering Gadot will already appear as the DC comics heroine beforehand in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Many details of Pine’s deal are unknown, but it is described as a multi-picture deal with sequel options. Patty Jenkins (Monster) will be directing Pine and Gadot in Wonder Woman, with Jason Fuchs (Pan) penning the screenplay. Besides Wonder Woman, Pine’s other notable franchise is Star Trek, where the actor plays Captain James T. Kirk. Pine recently signed on to do a fourth Star Trek film for Paramount just a month ago.
