It looks as though Chris Pine is keeping a close working relationship with Disney. According to Deadline, the Star Trek actor has been cast in the studio’s adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time, with Ava DuVernay (Selma) helming.
Pine will be joining Storm Reid (12 Years a Slave), Oprah Winfrey, Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Belle), Reese Witherspoon, and Mindy Kaling as the film’s token male (a role he seems happy to play considering his similar position in DC’s Wonder Woman). Sources say that Pine will be playing Mr. Murray, husband to Dr. Kate Murray (Mbatha-Raw), the mother of the story’s heroine Meg (Reid).
A Wrinkle in Time follows Meg, a young girl who goes in search of her government scientist father (Pine) after he goes missing working on a mysterious project called a tesseract that allows him to travel to a fifth dimension. During her search, Meg encounters fantastic creatures and several guides that help her along her way.
Pine previously starred in the studio’s Into the Woods screen adaptation and The Finest Hours, which bowed earlier this year. Pine will step in front of the camera for DuVernay before the end of the year, but before we see him as Mr. Murray, audiences will see Pine as Steve Trevor next summer in Wonder Woman.
