Chris Nash’s ‘In A Violent Nature’ Gives Fresh View Of Slasher Genre

Canadian writer-director Chris Nash’s In Violent Nature is gaining traction for doing a total 180 on the slasher genre. The film’s first trailer has been released and showcases why it received such a strong response at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, where it screened at the festival’s “Midnight” strand (where other prominent horror films such as The Blair Witch Project and Hereditary first premiered).

Nash’s film is exciting horror fans because it tells the story through the slasher’s eyes. The following is a synopsis of the film: “Delve into the wilderness where an undead horror awakens. In a Violent Nature flips the script on traditional slashers, inviting you to witness the rampage from the monster’s eyes.”

Horror news site Bloody Disgusting describes the film as “a fascinating arthouse horror experiment that plays more like a minimalist slice-of-life feature with a grim, gory twist.”

For those that prefer their films to take on a faster pace, though, they may be frustrated by the film as it is inspired by slow cinema with longer takes and no musical score. Nash even names Terrence Malick, a director in the slow cinema movement, as an inspiration.

IFC Films will be releasing In a Violent Nature on May 31 before the film is then added to Shudder, a horror streaming service.
