Over the past couple of weeks, Chris Hansen has had plenty to say about the upcoming A24 film Primetime, a true-story drama following the creation and rise of Dateline NBC’s To Catch a Predator, in which Robert Pattinson plays Chris Hansen. Hansen has been quite vocal about the film, going so far as to claim he didn’t attend a screening A24 offered him because he refused to sign an NDA, also paying for ad space to promote his streaming platform, TruBlu, before every theatrical screening.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Chris Hansen discussed Robert Pattinson’s portrayal of him in Primetime. “Obviously he has practiced imitating me,” he said, “and while I think it’s overly dramatic, I think there is a pretty good imitation there in the trailer.”
Hansen also goes on to say that his family has been a lot more receptive towards Pattinson’s performance than he has, saying: “It’s not so much what I think; it’s what other people think. And you know, my wife [and] my family seem to think it’s a pretty good imitation.” He also goes on to point out how Pattinson’s performance isn’t an exact portrayal of him, saying:

“He’s saying things I never said and doing things I never did, and that’s not who I am. I’m a nice guy, except when it comes to criminals and predators.  “I think people should remember that it is a work of fiction, only based on real-life events.”

Primetime is directed by Lance Oppenheim. In addition to Pattinson, the film also stars Merritt Wever, Skyler Gisondo, Phoebe Bridgers, Anna Farris, Tony Revolori, and Bokeem Woodbine. A24 will release the film on September 25, and it will premiere at the Venice International Film Festival on September 5.
