Chris Evans Teases A Tough Return For Steve Rogers In Avengers: Doomsday

Chris Evans is giving fans a little more to think about when it comes to Steve Rogers’ return in Avengers: Doomsday. The actor recently opened up about what fans can expect from the character, and it sounds like Steve will have a rough time when he comes back.

According to ScreenRant  , Evans described Steve’s story in the upcoming Marvel movie as “brutal.” He also joked that directors Joe and Anthony Russo have never been afraid to put Steve through difficult situations.

That could mean some major changes for Steve. His story appeared to come to an end in Avengers: Endgame, when he went back in time to be with Peggy Carter. He eventually returned as an older man and handed his shield over to Sam Wilson.

Now, Evans is stepping back into the role, but Marvel has not said exactly why Steve is back or what his role will be in the new movie. The studio has kept most of the details surrounding Avengers: Doomsday quiet, which has left fans guessing about what could happen to the former Captain America.

Evans also revealed how Marvel managed to keep his return a secret. During his appearance at Fan Expo Boston, he said Steve was listed under the name “Luke Cage” in scripts and call sheets. The fake name helped keep his involvement from getting out before Marvel was ready to reveal it.

Avengers: Doomsday will feature a large lineup of Marvel characters, with Robert Downey Jr. also returning to the MCU, this time as Doctor Doom. Joe and Anthony Russo are directing the film.

The movie is scheduled to hit theaters on December 18, 2026. Until then, fans will have to wait to find out what Evans meant by calling Steve’s story brutal and what exactly Marvel has planned for his return.
