Check Out TV on the Radio’s Tunde Adebimpe in the Trailer for ‘Nasty Baby’

The trailer has arrived for the dark comedy Nasty Baby, the latest from idiosyncratic writer/director Sebastián Silva (The MaidCrystal Fairy & the Magical Cactus). One of the noteworthy premieres at the 2015 Sundance Film FestivalNasty Baby stars Tunde Adebimpe (Rachel Getting Married) and Silva as couple and Kristen Wiig (The Martian) as their best friend. A set of baby-obsessed Brooklyn hipsters who are coming to terms with the idea of creating life in a non-traditional sense while being pushed in decidedly unexpected ways due to an aggressive neighborhood man (played by Emmy winner Reg E. Cathey, House of Cards).

The film, picked up by The Orchard, was a polarizing one at Sundance- earning critical praise as well as a handful of walkouts. Since, Nasty Baby has played the festival circuit including the Berlin Film Festival (where it received the Teddy Award, a prize bestowed to films exploring LGBT themes), Sydney Film Festival, Outfest and the upcoming London Film Festival. Alia Shawcat (Whip It), Judy Marte (Raising Victor Vargas) and Mark Margolis (Black Swan) co-star.

Adebimpe, known mostly as the lead singer of the band TV on the Radio, made his feature debut in the 2001 indie Jump Tomorrow and was featured prominently in Jonathan Demme’s Rachel Getting Married as Sidney, the groom to Rosemarie DeWitt’s bride. He can currently be seen in the indie 7 Chinese Brothers opposite Jason Schwartzman (Moonrise Kingdom). For Wiig, Nasty Baby was one of two well received films to premiere at Sundance this year- she also co-starred in The Diary of Teenage Girl. She will next be featured in Ridley Scott’s sci-fi epic The Martian.

Silva, an on-the-rise filmmaker who was born in Chile, broke out with the critical and art house hit The Maid (2009). He since both wrote and directed Crystal Fairy & the Magical CactusMagic Magic and is set next to work on the anthology film MadlyNasty Baby is set to open in limited release on October 23rd with on-demand viewing slated to start on October 30th.
