Check Out this Portuguese Superhero Satire Trailer

There’s no way around it, this is an odd one. Capitao Falcao (or, Captain Falcon – no relation to the video game character of the same name) is the bizarro creation of Portuguese writer and director Joao Leitao. First think of the campy 1960s Batman television series starring Adam West. Got it? The flashy costumes, the popping colors, the silly deadpan dialogue? Good, now imagine it was made in Portugal as a propaganda piece supporting a fascist government.

Leito originally planned Capitao Falcao as a TV series – much like Batman. Unfortunately all that came of it was a highly entertaining trailer, much like the fake previews that played in Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino’s Grindhouse. Fortunately, much like the trailer for the fake movie Machete led to the real movie Machete, Capitao Falicao has been revamped for the big screen.

Goncalo Waddington stars in the upcoming film as the titular Capitao Falcao, a Portuguese superhero dressed like a weird mixture of Inspector Clouseau, The Green Hornet, and Adolph Hitler. He battles Marxists, Communists, and Feminists in the name of fascism. The trailer shows the Capitao going toe to toe with hammer and sickle wielding baddies, ladies with flaming bras, and a quirky gang of color-coded villains that look oddly reminiscent of Super Sentai.
