Check Out the Trailer from the Upcoming Stop-Motion Film ‘Kubo and the Two Strings’

Laika and Focus Features gear up for this August’s release of Kubo and the Two Strings, the first of their films since 2014’s highly acclaimed and Oscar nominated The Boxtrolls. Laika has previously released acclaimed animated films ParaNorman (2012) and Coraline (2009) with Focus. This will also be the first film in a new three-picture deal between the two studios.

This stop-motion film follows Kubo, a troubadour of sorts, who now must seek an occult suit of armor that once belonged to his father, a legendary samurai. Along the way, he will battle many gods and monsters in order to succeed in his mission. The trailer showcases the epic nature of Kubo whilst a shamisen version of George Harrison’s “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” plays in the background.

The picture is directed by newcomer Travis Knight, and among the voice actors are Charlize Theron (Mad Max: Fury Road), Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club), current Oscar nominee Rooney Mara (Carol), and Ralph Fiennes (The Grand Budapest Hotel).

Kubo and the Two Strings is set to hit theaters on August 19, 2016. Check out the trailer below:
