We mentioned last week that actor Tom Hardy has taken on a lot of work lately, and as if to prove us right, a trailer for his upcoming film The Drop (formerly titled Animal Rescue) has, uh, dropped. Hardy stars in the crime drama alongside Noomi Rapace (Prometheus), Matthias Schoenaerts (Rust and Bone), and James Gandolfini in his last film role before his death last year.
Bob Saginowski finds himself at the center of a robbery gone awry and entwined in an investigation that digs deep into the neighborhood’s past where friends, families, and foes all work together to make a living – no matter the cost.
Another film Gandolfini finished work on before his death, Enough Said, was released last year, to much critical acclaim. If you’re curious about Gandolfini’s final contribution to cinema, or if your intrigued by a trailer with mood reminiscent of Ben Affleck’s Gone Baby Gone (which was based on a novel by The Drop‘s screenwriter, Dennis Lehane), Killing Them Softly (which, Gandolfini also appeared in), and last year’s bleaker than a foggy winter day crime drama Out of the Furnace, then check out The Drop when it hits theaters September 12th.
