Walt Disney Pictures has released a trailer for the upcoming action thriller The Finest Hours. Based on a true story, the film details a daring sea rescue in 1952, and judging by the trailer, there will be action by the boatload.
In February 1952, a wicked nor’easter ripped up the New England coast, leaving massive chaos in its wake. The storm was strong enough to rip an oil tanker in half, stranding 30 crewmen in its sinking stern. Coast Guard Captain Bernie Webber (Chris Pine, Star Trek) is tasked with leading four-man team in what looks like a suicide mission to try and save the doomed men, much to the dismay of his worried fiancée (Holliday Grainger, Cinderella).
Casey Affleck (Interstellar) plays first assistant engineer Ray Sybert, who, as the ranking office remaining on the tanker, must take control of the situation and do anything he can to keep the remaining crew safe. Eric Bana (Lone Survivor) and Ben Foster (The Messenger) help round out the cast.
The film is based on the non-fiction book The Finest Hours by Michael J.Tougias and Casey Sherman. Craig Gillespie (Million Dollar Arm) directed from a screenplay by Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson (who together worked on The Fighter). A January 29, 2016 release date is planned.
