Check out the New Fantastical Trailer for Pixar’s ‘Onward’

With 2020 coming up, Pixar is setting up their next year to feature two original films with a lot of hype. The first is a fantasy film with a modern twist known as Onward, set for release in the spring of 2020. To build anticipation, Disney just released a new trailer for their upcoming animated film that dives a bit more into the story.

The trailer starts out with our elf Ian Lightfoot (Tom Holland) receiving a wizard staff for his 16th birthday. The staff initially belong to his father, who died when Ian and his brother Barley (Chris Pratt) were very young and allows them to cast a spell to bring their dad back for one day. It works, but only partially, quite literally, as the spell was only able to bring out only his lower body. Now it’s up to them to travel onward to complete the magic spell and see their dad before 24 hours are up. This new trailer shows off the basic rundown of the plot but adds a bit more characters with the inclusion of a manticore named Corey (Octavia Spencer). She even teams up with Ian and Barley’s mother Laurel (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) to find the elf brothers again before they get into any danger.

Onward‘s new trailer showcases a lot of energy to what looks to be an enjoyable Pixar road trip. It’s taking the typical route of having a duo go on an extravagant adventure but with a contemporary edge, given how their fantasy world resembles our real world. Some might say that this film feels like something out of Dreamworks Animation concept-wise but, considering Pixar’s strong brand name, it could still be a fun romp with likable characters. If nothing else, fans at least have another Pixar movie to be excited about before Soul comes out in June, 2020.

Onward is set for release March 6th 2020. Watch the full trailer below:

Ryan Pineda: When it comes to film, animation, video games and other mediums, I can discuss for hours about how much on why certain films and animated media made me the person I am today. I adore the artistic merit that comes from a lot of pop-culture media and will definitely love to have a conversation about favorite movies any day! I have graduated in 2017 with a BA in Film and Television at the University of Arizona. Been passionate about writing about films due to always having an interesting outlook on the medium. Will always see a film and will definitely be sure to recommend it to someone that I know for a fact would love that movie. Not only that but will also give reasons for why I think that film did or did not work as a movie, and the same can go for other pieces of media like television, video games and especially animated projects.
