Check Out the Latest Trailer for ‘Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets’

STX Entertainment has released the latest trailer for Luc Besson‘s newest sci-fi spectacular spectacular Valerian and the City of Thousand Planets. Based on the comic book series Valerian and Laureline by Pierre Christin and Jean-Claude Mézières, published by Dargaud, and written for the screen by Besson. Besson, of course, is the filmmaker behind such innovative titles as Léon: The ProfessionalThe Fifth Element and Lucy. Besson shared the first glimpse of Valerian at last year’s ComicCon to much fanfare and praise.

The synopsis reads as follows:

“In the 28th century, Valerian and Laureline are a team of special operatives charged with maintaining order throughout the human territories. Under assignment from the Minister of Defense, the two embark on a mission to the astonishing city of Alpha-an ever-expanding metropolis where species from all over the universe have converged over centuries to share knowledge, intelligence and cultures with each other. There is a mystery at the center of Alpha, a dark force which threatens the peaceful existence of the City of a Thousand Planets, and Valerian and Laureline must race to identify the marauding menace and safeguard not just Alpha, but the future of the universe.”

Valerian is played by Dane DeHaan (A Cure For Wellness) and Laureline by Cara Delevingne (Suicide Squad). The eclectic ensemble cast includes Clive Owen, Rihanna, Ethan Hawke, Herbie Hancock, Kris Wu and Rutger Hauer.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets hits theaters on July 21nd. Check out the latest trailer below.
