Check Out the Latest Trailer for ‘The Birth of a Nation’

Four months before hitting theaters, Nate Parker’s The Birth of Nation already feels like one of the most significant movies of the year. A phenomenon at this year’s Sundance Film Festival (where it picked up both the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award) – where it world premiered right in the maelstrom of “Oscar So White” – and was the recipient of early approval from both critics and festival attendees and picked up by Fox Searchlight in a record-setting sale.

That all may be a lot to live up to but the film – ribbing the title of D.W. Griffith’s infamous 1915 movie – but Parker’s The Birth of a Nation appears to have quite lot of confidence as the official trailer exhibits. Parker (Beyond the Lights) directed, co-wrote and stars in the film portraying Nat Turner, a literate slave in and preacher in the antebellum South who led an imposing uprising. Armie Hammer (The Man From U.N.C.L.E.), Mark Boone Junior (Memento), Aunjanue Ellis (The Help), Dwight Henry (Beasts of the Southern Wild), Aja Naomi King (How to Get Away with Murder), Esther Scott (Dreamgirls), Jackie Earle Haley (Little Children), Penelope Ann Miller (The Artist) and Gabrielle Union (Top Five) make out the impressive supporting cast.

Check out the latest trailer below. The Birth of a Nation hits theaters on October 7th.
