Check Out the First Trailer for ‘The Shack’

The first official trailer for the spiritual film The Shack was finally revealed. The film, which was adapted from the novel The Shack, was originally supposed to be directed by Forest Whitaker, but because of scheduling conflicts, was instead helmed by Stuart Hazeldine. The film stars Sam Worthington (Avatar), as well as Octavia Spencer (The Help) and Tim McGraw, and was filmed last summer in Vancouver, Canada.

The best-selling novel, published ten years ago in 2007 by Canadian author William P Young, went generally unnoticed for about a year until suddenly it found itself at #1 on the New York Times Bestseller List, where it stayed for 70 weeks. Although the book is inherently Christian, the book has been read by people all over the world of different beliefs and religions. The story follows a father named Mack (Worthington) on a trying spiritual journey after the loss of a child. One day he receives a mysterious letter that invites him to meet God in a shack in the woods. It is there that encounters manifestations of the three persons of the Christian Trinity: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. God (the Father) is an African American woman, Jesus Christ is a Middle-Eastern carpenter; and the Holy Spirit is an Asian woman. The ‘shack’ is meant to symbolize the walls one puts up when in grief. The three visitors help him confront his sadness and anger towards the murderer of his child.

The film will be released March, 2017.
