Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for the upcoming Nancy Meyers comedy The Intern, starring Oscar winners Robert De Niro (Raging Bull) and Anne Hathaway (Interstellar). The story focuses on a widower (De Niro) who finds that the boredom of retirement is not what he had anticipated, leading him to start over at the very bottom in order to get back in the game.
Hathaway plays Jules Ostin, the young founder and CEO of an online fashion website. When it’s decided she needs some help around the office, she connects with an internship program for senior citizens, which brings her De Niro’s Ben Whittaker. Initially a fish out of water in this high-tech, young-skewing world, Ben ingratiates himself with the team and eventually with Jules as well, helping guide her when her career appears to hit a rough patch, ultimately becoming as much a friend as a subordinate.
Rene Russo (Thor), Anders Holm (Workaholics), Andrew Rannells (HBO’s Girls), Adam Devine (Pitch Perfect), Celia Weston (No Reservations), Linda Lavin (Wanderlust) and Nat Wolff (The Fault in Our Stars) help round out the multi-generational cast.
This is writer/director Meyers’ first film since 2009’s It’s Complicated. The Intern is slated for a September 25 release.
