One of the most eagerly anticipated offerings of the year is set to arrive in theaters actually quite soon. Logan – or Hugh Jackman’s supposed Wolverine swan song – appears to be firing on all cylinders, at the very least from a marketing perspective. The third standalone Wolverine film in the X-Men universe – itself a complication scenario considering the group of characters licensed to 20th Century Fox versus those a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe – is taking on a rougher, harder, more R-rated-er swagger is Jackman’s characterization appears to drift off into the cinematic sunset.
So comes the second trailer for Logan. The film centers around a more weary Wolverine as he attempts to aid an ill Professor X (a returning Patrick Stewart) while hiding out on the Mexican border when dark forces suddenly become a threat. More than that, Logan seems focused on being a legacy-type of film – of the character and surely of the actor leaving behind his most famous creation (Jackman has played Wolverine since the very beginning, Bryan Singer’s X-Men, which opened in the summer of 2000.) James Mangold, who previously the directed The Wolverine, is back at the helm with a script by Mangold, Michael Green and Scott Frank (Mangold and David James Kelly earn story by credits).
