According to an exclusive from The Hollywood Reporter, Charlize Theron will portray and star as Megyn Kelly, host of The Kelly File, in the upcoming film about the disgraced Fox News chairman Roger Ailes.
Theron is joined by director Jay Roach in the film, and the entire thing is being put together and financed by Annapurna. The script is penned by The Big Short writer Charles Randolph. Theron is helping produce the film along with others including Beth Kono and AJ Dix.
Ailes was initially known for not only helping elect Republican Presidents Nixon, Reagan, and Bush Sr., but also for starting the careers of well-known Fox News Reporters Megyn Kelly, Sean Hannity, and Gretchen Carlson. In 2016, with both Kelly and Carlson at the face of the allegations, Ailes was forced to resign from the network and his position after multiple accounts of sexual misconduct surfaced.
The film is to be “an ensemble pic” centering around the rise and fall of Ailes at the news station. We will likely see his interactions with characters including Carlson, Kelly (Theron), Greta Van Susteren, Rupert Murdoch, and the now defamed Bill O’Reilly.
Theron can currently be seen in Tully.
