Channing Tatum has signed on to star in and produce an upcoming Disney film titled Bob the Musical. Tatum will produce the musical comedy through his own production company Free Association, along with his partners Reid Carolin and Peter Kiernan. The project has been in development at Disney since 2004, with many filmmakers like Phil Lord and Chris Miller (Spiderman: Into The Spiderverse) previously attached to direct the movie.
During 15 years of being in development, the script has previously been worked on by multiple writers including Mike Bender (Not Another Teen Movie) and John August (Frankenweenie). Bob the Musical centers around the titular Bob, who can suddenly hear the inner songs of everyone’s hearts after a blow to his head. His once normal life takes an unexpected turn as his reality becomes a musical, which he is incredibly distressed about.
Not much is known yet about the cast of start date of Bob the Musical’s production, as Disney is currently on the hunt for a new director to jumpstart the long-awaited project. Nonetheless, Tatum seems promising for the role, given his background in dancing and musicals for the 2006 dance film Step Up and especially 2016’s Hail, Caesar!, where he was required to perform classic, old-school musical dance numbers in a very Singing In The Rain-esque way.
