Paramount Pictures is officially shifting gears and bringing new leadership to replace their CEO. Bob Bakish’s time as CEO is up, but he will remain with the company.
Reportedly, the duties of the head of Paramount will now be split up between three separate people. George Cheeks, Brian Robbins, and Chris McCarthy will share the responsibilities. However, Bakish will serve as an adviser for the company through the end of October.
Variety posted the complete letter that Bakish sent to workers at Paramount regarding his leave. He expressed his pride for the accomplishments made over his time at Paramount and also made clear his pride and faith in the talent of those he worked with.
Bakish elaborated further on the company’s successes, saying they could tell many stories that connected with diverse audiences.
He added, “We did it all while navigating a fascinating but no less challenging time for media and entertainment – economic ups and downs, mergers and acquisitions, sweeping organizational transformation, and a global pandemic.”
Bakish’s time as CEO coming to a close coincides with attempts at combining Paramount and fellow company, Skydance. Skydance and Paramount have distributed multiple movies together, including last year’s Mission: Impossible- Dead Reckoning Part One, and Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts. Shari Redstone is leading the charge to help merge Paramount and Skydance.
Variety, who reported on the shifting leadership at Paramount, stated that Bakish’s time as CEO drawing to an end had nothing to do with the merger attempting to be put in place. Bakish reportedly did not want the two companies to join, though his exit did not hinge on the deal.
