It’s been announced that Cate Blanchett will follow the small list of women to serve as President of the Jury for the 2018 Festival De Cannes. She would be following current president, Pedro Almodovar, whose jury last year awarded the Palme d’Or to the Swedish Oscar entry The Square.
The festival is held every year from May 8 though May 19 and plays a pivotal role to bring the world together and celebrate story.
Blanchett is no stranger to the award light, as she won Best Actress for her performance in Blue Jasmine and took Best supporting Actress in The Aviator. She also was nominated for her role in Carol as well as Elizabeth: The Golden Age. Blanchett also was awarded the Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Minister for Culture as well as the Centenary Medal for Service to the Australian Society and the 2015 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts and is currently a companion in the order of Australia since 2017.
Currently she has starred as the villain in last year’s Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok and can be seen in the all-woman adaptation Ocean’s 8 which is set to release in the spring after Cannes.
