Casting For Young Han Solo Narrows Down to Three

Ever since news broke that Disney was developing a Han Solo prequel film – currently only known as “Untitled Han Solo Star Wars Anthology Film” – much discussion has been spun into who might possibly be able to step into role made indelibly iconic by Harrison Ford? According to The Hollywood Reporter, the field has narrowed to three names.

Reportedly, but by no means definitive by any stretch, screen test were conducted with who may be the three finalists for the role of young Han Solo: Alden Ehrenreich (who most recently earned warm critics notices for his role the Coen Brothers’ Hail, Caesar!), Jack Reynor (Transformers: Age of Extinction) and Taron Egerton (star of the Kingsman franchise and currently on screen in the comedy Eddie the Eagle). The LEGO Movie directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller will direct the property from a screenplay by Star Wars vet Lawrence Kasden and his son, Jon.

Clearly a project of this magnitude comes with it a code of silence and Disney has offered no such clues as to which young actor may have the upper hand. Reportedly, upwards of 2,500 actors have either personally met with filmmakers or offered tapes for the highly coveted role. A few more up-and-comer actors may also still be in the mix including Whiplash star Miles TellerThe Fault in Our StarsAnsel Elgort and Brooklyn breakout Emory Cohen.

Disney will likely tease the casting for bit longer, perhaps confirming later this year to help propel further publicity as Rogue One: A Star Wars Story makes its way into theaters. The film is slated to hit theaters on May 25, 2018.
