Carrie Brownstein and St. Vincent to Debut Film ‘The Nowhere Inn’ At Sundance

Carrie Brownstein and musician St. Vincent, also known as Annie Clark, will debut their new film, The Nowhere Inn, at the Sundance Film Festival in 2020. Brownstein, best known for her work on Portlandia as well as being 1/3 of the rock group Sleater-Kinney, co-wrote the script with Clark. The meta film, which includes both Clark and Brownstein playing themselves, will follow St. Vincent as she plans to make a documentary about her music. When she approaches friend Brownstein to direct, “notions of reality, identity, and authenticity grow increasingly distorted and bizarre,” according to Sundance’s description.

Directed by Bill Benz, who previously collaborated with Brownstein on Portlandia, The Nowhere Inn additionally includes Clark and Brownstein as producers, along with Jett Steiger and Lana Kim. This is the third collaborative effort from Clark and Brownstein, following a 2017 Instagram short film series and the latest Sleater-Kinney album, The Center Won’t Hold, which Clark produced.

Clark took to Instagram to announce the film, calling Brownstein her “bff” in the caption.

The Nowhere Inn will debut at Sundance 2020, taking place from Jan. 23 to Feb. 2 in Park City, Utah.
