Famous rapper Cardi B scored her first leading role in a comedy Assisted Living for Paramount. The Grammy winner expressed her enthusiasm on her Twitter account for the exciting news.On Thursday, Jan. 14. Cardi B tweeted, “Work & life is about to become 10x harder, but I’m overwhelmed with happiness. When you have opportunities in your hands, TAKE THEM ALL!”
Assisted Living was in a competitive bidding war in spring 2019, but Paramount was able to win the rights to the comedy. Kay Oyegun, the writer behind This Is Us wrote the script for Assisted Living. Variety dubbed the film as a raucous comedy with tremendous heart, in the vein of classic comedies such as Tootsie, Sister Act, and Mrs. Doubtfire.
Assisted Living follows Amber (Cardi B), a small-time crook, who finds herself in over her head when a heist goes wrong. On the run from both the police and her old crew, she struggles to find anyone to take her in. Running out of options, Amber disguises herself as an older woman and hides out in one spot where no one will look for her at… her estranged grandma’s nursing home.
Cardi B made her debut in the film industry for 2019’s feature film Hustlers in a minor role alongside Jennifer Lopez, Constance Wu, and Keke Palmer. She will also star in the upcoming Fast & Furious franchise blockbuster, F9 as Leysa. In music, the W.A.P. rapper won a Grammy award for Best Rap Album for the 2018’s Invasion of Privacy.
