It was confirmed on Twitter that Emmy and Tony winner (and recent Oscar nominee) Bryan Cranston will portray Zordon in the upcoming Power Rangers movie. With the film currently in pre-production, many announcements have been revealed showing the different tone this interpretation of Power Rangers has to offer compared to the original light-hearted, albeit campy, series.
Bryan Cranston, best known for his role as Walter White in Breaking Bad, will play the man who assembled the Power Rangers with his famous line “Alpha, Rita’s escaped! Recruit a team of teenagers with attitude!” With the first pictures of the rangers suits, as well as Rita looking more intense than their originals, we can only wonder what kind of performance Cranston can bring.
Scheduled to release in March of 2017, The Power Rangers will hit theaters. When it does we will see if Bryan Cranston’s performance will be as serious as Walter White, or stick to the originals campy nature with a performance similar to Hal from Malcolm in the Middle. Cranston recently grabbed an Oscar nomination for his acclaimed work in Trumbo and, most recently, revived his Tony Award winning performance in All the Way for HBO.
