Bronies Rejoice! Lionsgate Releases ‘My Little Pony’ Movie Announcement Teaser

Friendship is cinematic!

Lionsgate and Hasbro’s production company Allspark Pictures have released the first teaser trailer and poster for their upcoming toy-based animated feature, My Little Pony: The Movie!

Based on the popular 1980’s toy line, the latest incarnation of My Little Pony, subtitled Friendship is Magic, premiered on television screens in 2010 on Hasbro’s The Hub network under the helm of executive producer and Cartoon Network veteran Lauren Faust (Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, The Powerpuff Girls) and her team of experienced animators. Since then, this new generation of ponies has surprisingly taken the world by storm, captivating fans young and old, even garnering a subculture of male fans called “bronies”.

Now in its seventh season, the show has followed Twilight Sparkle, played by voice actress Tara Strong, as she learns valuable lessons about life and friendship with her fellow pony friends and pet dragon Spike in the land of Equestria.

The feature length movie, due in theaters on October 6th, will feature fan-favorite characters like Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie, along with new faces voiced by an impressive cast that includes Zoë Saldana (Guardians of the Galaxy), Emily Blunt (Edge of Tomorrow), Michael Peña (Ant-Man), and Kristen Chenoweth, among a host of others.

Austin Allison: Born and raised in Tucson, AZ, I have been obsessed with cartoons, animation, and film in general for as long as I've known how to talk and draw. From Disney animation to indie movies, filmmaking was always the purest form of art to me. I majored in Film and Television Studies and minored in Studio Art at the University of Arizona. The greatest aspect of studying film was developing a creative and critical eye for a medium that I had loved for so long, but couldn't explain why I loved it until now.
