‘Blindspotting’ Official Trailer Released

Blindspotting, which Rafael Casal and Daveed Diggs penned together, has just released its first official trailer, and it looks just as intense and real as it does funny and playful.

We open to a scene of three men sitting in a decked out car and comparing their coolest guns with one another. That is, until the driver gets an unexpected Uber call and needs to get back to work. With this small, comedic anecdote, we’re already set into a relatively light-hearted mood and we know the characters will carry it throughout the film.

Diggs’ character Collin has only three days left for his probation. All he wants to do is get back to his normal life and live in comfort. It looks like Casal’s character Miles may just put a wrench in that plan, and a new danger begins.

Just as Collin looks like he is home free, he sees the murder of a black man by a white cop and intensity ensues. We notice a change in Collin after this. His own conflictions about his gentrified town, his past, and the oppressive justice system holding him back begin eating away at him and he must take action to make things right.

Diggs and Casal incorporate rap, the spoken word, and hip hop throughout the script to express the lives of men trying to get by in Oakland and create connection and understanding to the lives they are portraying for those who watch the film.

Diggs is best known for his Tony Award-winning performance as both Marquis de Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson in the smash hit Hamilton on Broadway. He can also been seen and heard in recent films including Wonder and Ferdinand. Jasmine Cephas Jones, who also acted with him in the musical, will act in the film as well.

Casal has been connected to The Away Team and Ricochet in Reverse.

Janina Gavankar, Ethan Embry, and Wayne Knight also star in the film. Coming to select cities July 20th, 2018.
