Details revolving the highly anticipated sequel for Blade Runner have been kept close to vest yet news has broken regarding at least one piece of the puzzle – the upcoming film’s title. The film which will bring back to the screen Harrison Ford‘s Rick Deckard will be known, simply as Blade Runner 2049.
Denis Villeneuve, the filmmaker whose hell-of-a-recent-roll includes Prisoners (2013), Sicario (2015) and the upcoming film Arrival, directs the sequel – taking over the reins of Ridley Scott, who introduced the world of replicants to the silver screen with his highly influential science fiction classic back in 1982. Ford is back and alongside him is killer ensemble cast that includes Ryan Gosling (Blue Valentine), Ana de Armas (Hands of Stone), Dave Bautista (Spectre), Robin Wright (House of Cards), Mackenzie Davis (The Martian), Barkhad Abdi (Captain Phillips) and Oscar winner Jared Leto (Suicide Squad).
The original film was based on Philip K. Dick’s novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? and adapted for the screen by Hampton Fancher. Fancher co-penned the sequel – which is set several decades after the events of the first film – alongside Michael Green. The plot specifics have not yet been disclosed.
Blade Runner 2049 will hit theaters on October 6, 2017.
