Black Widow, another film from the Marvel Cinematic Universe is officially coming back to theaters, and is expected to do extremely well, pulling in $13.2 million on Thursday for pandemic-best preview night. This highlights the fact that the pandemic didn’t affect the popularity of Marvel films. Black Widow already passed the results of Fast & Furious 9, which got $7.1 million on its first Thursday.
Black Widow is directed by Cate Shortland from story by Jac Schaeffer (WandaVision) and Ned Benson (The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby), with a screenplay written by Eric Pearson (Thor: Ragnarok). The movie stars Scarlett Johansson, Florence Pugh, Rachel Weisz, and David Harbour.
According to Collider, the numbers are not only impressive for post-pandemic numbers but also in general, compared to other MCU movies. Ant-Man and the Wasp hauled $11.5 million on preview night, while Guardians of the Galaxy reached $11.2 million. With the amount that Black Widow pulled in one night, it is predicted to make between $80 million and $90 million for a 3-day start.
MCU films have been extremely popular for a number of years, so it’s no surprise that Black Widow has done so well. It is interesting that Black Widow is the first MCU movie that will also be available on Disney+ at release time, plus appears to be doing well in theaters.
