Black & White Version of ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’ Coming to HBO Max

The launch of Zack Snyder’s Justice League may not have been the cinematic event of the year, but Zack Snyder isn’t letting few reviews calling the four-hour film “disappointing” get in the way of his creative vision. The film’s official Twitter announced on Saturday that a black & white version of the cut will be coming to HBO Max.

“My ideal version of the movie is the black and white IMAX version of the movie,” said Snyder in an interview with The Film Junkee last year. “That, to me, is the most fan-centric, most pure, most Justice League experience. Because that’s how I lived with the movie for two years, in black and white…when I do the live-stream of the trailer, Steph and I colored a black and white version of the trailer. So, the first version that I’m going to put out, and probably what I’m going to talk about on Tuesday, will be the black and white version of the trailer.”

An IMAX version may be a long shot, but black and white seems to be coming in the near future. Black and white re-cuts of films have become a trend in recent years, with films like Mad Max: Fury Road including black and white version titled Mad Max: Blood and Chrome, and the most recent Wolverine film, Logan, getting a discolored version titled, Logan: Noir.

A black and white version may not be enough to get everyone to re-watch the four-hour film, but it will certainly direct some extra attention toward it. Zack Snyder’s Justice League is currently streaming on HBO Max.
