The latest Marvel film is quickly becoming the highest anticipated movie of February with presales already surpassing the last Marvel Film, Captain America: Civil War, released back in May 2016. The records thereby make it the highest performing Marvel film to date for the first 24 hours of presales. While this does not necessarily translate to box office sales, it does prove that Black Panther‘s momentum is revving up exponentially in anticipation of its release.
Tickets went on sell Monday January 8, and fans, via the movie app Fandango, have taken to buying the tickets leading to what is sure to be a sold out weekend in February, though officials at Fandango have yet to say the total amount of tickets sold thus far.
The large hype of the Black Panther film first came from San Diego Comic-Con with the unveiling of the first trailer, and fans were hooked. This will be Marvel’s first standalone film for a black superhero, and setting the film in both America and Africa with a virtually all-black cast makes it all the more exciting. Directed by Ryan Coogler, the film stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Danai Gurira, Lupita Nyong’o, Forest Whitaker, Daniel Kaluuya, and many more.
Black Panther opens in theaters February 16, 2018.
