The release date for Marvel’s Black Panther 2 was just dropped at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, California. May 6, 2022 is the first time we will see the people of Wakanda back in action since the events of Avengers: Endgame. According to producer Kevin Feige, returning director Ryan Coogler has sent in a treatment with a villain and a title for the second film, but would not go into further detail about the storyline and any additional cast news.
Chadwick Boseman rounded out the stunning cast of the first Black Panther film with his portrayal of King T’Challa, aka Black Panther. His other co-stars included Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Forrest Whitaker, Michael B. Jordan, Danai Gurira, Andy Serkis, and Angela Bassett. The first Black Panther was released on February 16, 2018 and made Marvel history be being the first super hero film to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture. In went on to be nominated for 6 more and win three. It is also the second highest-grossing Marvel film in the United States, under only Endgame.
The news of the second film being in development came at the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con in July. It was also announced that Marvel would make The Eternals, Thor: Love and Thunder, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in what is called Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
