Not only has Black Adam remained the the highest grossing film at the box office for the second consecutive week, it has also crossed the $100 million mark this week, making it Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s 18th film to do so.
Johnson’s live-action superhero debut has come as a surprise to some, as films have a track record for dipping on Halloween weekend. This is in part because of “the annual spooky effect,” which effects all films that are released near or around the holiday.
Viewership at theaters this Halloween weekend grossed in $69 million, which is a 7% increase from last years $64.3 million, but ‘Black Adam’ has handed Johnson his steepest decline in viewership out of all of his films, with a decline of 59%.
Previous second week slumps are not bad, all films have suffered a similar fate. The drop overlaps some of Johnson’s most popular blockbuster films, such as Rampage with a 44% decline, Skyscraper with a 54% decline, and San Andreas with a 53% decline.
The former WWE Champion’s role in the super-anti hero film has now become his highest grossing film within the first 10 days of release; surpassing the ‘Fast and Furious’ spinoff film ‘Hobbs and Shaw,’ which drew in $108.3 million.
