With the New Year beginning, many are curious as to what new comic book films 2020 will offer. Starting out the year is DC’s newest R-rated action film Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), with Margot Robbie returning as the iconic Harley Quinn. The first trailer was released back in October in preparation for the release of Joker but, outside of a few advertisements and a promo at the Video Game Awards, the film had yet to receive a second trailer…. until now. Warner Bros just dropped the second official trailer for Birds of Prey, which is set to release in less than a month.
The trailer starts out with Harley Quinn tricking a police officer to think she needs help, only to attack him with a rocket launcher. She then mentions that, following a breakup with the Joker, she is now starting a solo crime career. The downside is that a crime boss known as Black Mask is after Harley so, to escape his wrath, she teams up with some of Mask’s other rivals and forms a team known as the Birds of Prey. This brief plot is then followed by a barrage of over the top action even showcasing things like Huntress’ crossbow skills, Black Canary’s screaming powers and Harley’s acrobatics. All of this action is set to Lucy Woodward’s cover of It’s Oh So Quiet, adding to the film’s Deadpool–like over the top nature. The trailer ends with Cassandra Cain questioning why Harley owns a Hyena, to which Harley states that she named him “Bruce, after that Wayne guy.”
Obviously the new trailer is taking a page from other hit R-rated superhero movies with a ton of action, swearing and what looks to be some very over the top violence. Sadly this isn’t a red band trailer, so obviously Warner Bros is saving their more bloody and insane moments for the final release. With the popularity of Harley Quinn and the massive success of Joker, luck may strike twice for DC having two hit adult-oriented comic book films in a row.
Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) is set for released February 7th 2020. Watch the Full Trailer Below:
