Billy Howle, who most recently acted in Dunkirk and The Sense of an Ending, has joined a new Netflix film titled Outlaw King, according to Deadline. The film will take place in the 12th century, focusing on Scotland and its fight for freedom. Howle will be playing the Prince of Wales who fought for the throne in Scotland.
The story focuses on Robert the Bruce, played by Chris Pine (Star Trek Franchise, Wonder Woman), who became the king of Scotland in the early 1300’s and would eventually lead the Scots against England in the Wars of Independence, where Scotland would fight for and receive its freedom and independence. This is the second announced film in the past week that will be focusing on Scottish history, with Mary, Queen Of Scots, starring Saoirse Ronan, being the first.
Other actors and actresses that have been announced for Outlaw King include Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kick-Ass, Avengers: Age of Ultron), Florence Pugh (Lady Macbeth, The Falling), and Callan Mulvey (Batman v. Superman, Captain America: The Winter Soldier). The film is being directed by David McKenzie (Hell or High Water, Perfect Sense), and has been written by McKenzie and Bash Doran (The Looming Tower). The film currently does not have a release date, but we assume that it will release sometime in 2018 or early 2019.
