Aaron Sorkin has cast comedian Bill Burr in the follow-up to his 2010 Oscar-winning biopic drama The Social Network, MovieWeb reports. Adapted from the Wall Street Journal article, The Facebook Files, the sequel, titled The Social Reckoning, will follow how the social media platform was exposed by a whistleblower for causing harm to teens and children and becoming a source of spreading misinformation, leading to real-world political violence, including the events of January 6th, 2021.
Sorkin will be returning as writer and now director of the project, replacing The Social Network‘s David Fincher. The cast of The Social Reckoning includes Jeremy Strong as Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg, replacing The Social Network‘s Jesse Eisenberg, Mikey Madison, fresh off her Best Actress win in Anora, as Frances Haugen, the former data engineer turned whistleblower, and Jeremy Allen White as Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horwitz.
Now Bill Burr is set to join the ensemble as a currently unnamed fictional or composite character. The comedian and actor recently appeared on Broadway with Kieran Culkin and Bob Odenkirk in Glengarry Glen Ross, and is getting ready to helm his next feature, Born Losers, which he will also co-write, produce, and star in. His directorial debut, Old Dads, premiered to 29.6 million views on Netflix in its first two weeks.
The Social Reckoning is set to begin production next month in Vancouver and is scheduled for release on October 9th, 2026.
