Benjamin Walker, Teresa Palmer Take Leads in Nicholas Sparks Movie ‘The Choice’

Benjamin Walker (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) and Teresa Palmer (Warm Bodies) have been announced as the two leads for the upcoming Nicholas Sparks movie The ChoiceThis will mark newly-formed Nicholas Sparks Productions’ first independent feature, with an adaptation of the novel by Bryan Sipe, and Ross Katz (Adult Beginners) signed on to direct.

The story follows the tumultuous decade-long romance of Travis Parker (Walker) and Gabby Holland (Palmer,) who meet after becoming neighbors in a small east coast town- a plot typical of most Sparks novels, with the only variation seeming to be the characters’ names.

Regardless of the standardized romantic arc this film is likely to have, Sparks has proven time and again his mastery of the genre. This will be the 11th Sparks adaptation to hit the screen, following the successes of past films like The Notebook (2004) and Dear John (2010.) His films have functioned as a great launching pad for many actors in the past, including Ryan Gosling (Drive,) Rachel McAdams (Midnight in Paris), Channing Tatum (Magic Mike), and others. To that end, we can most likely expect The Choice to do the same for Walker and Palmer, who both also have several high-profile projects currently in production. Walker will soon appear alongside Chris Hemsworth (Thor) in Heart of the Sea, as well as The Moon and The Sun with Pierce Brosnan (GoldenEye). Palmer will also be big presence in theaters next year with her roles in the Point Break remake, and the John Hillcoat-directed thriller Triple Nine alongside Aaron Paul (Need for Speed). She has also been working on a self-produced Untitled Happiness Documentary, while hoping to make her directorial debut with a movie called Track Town, based on a script she wrote. Palmer and Walker are also slated to reunite again next year for the thriller 2:22.

Lionsgate has not yet announced a release date for The Choice, but in the meantime Nicholas Sparks enthusiasts can buy their tickets for his latest film The Best of Me, starring Michelle Monaghan (Source Code) and James Marsden (X-Men), in theaters October 17th.
